You know the feelings—the tension and anxiety when you have too much to do or are facing personal problems. When you have more problems than answers, step back and look at the cause(s) of your stress to figure out what to do.

你清楚那种感觉,就是当你要做的事情太多或面对私人问题时会遇到紧张和焦虑。一旦你的问题多于答案,请退一步,看看你的压力的根源,想想该怎么做。

l       Is there a big change in your life? Instead of being afraid, have a positive attitude and think of change as a normal part of life.

l       Are you facing a job interview or a difficult exam? First of all, prepare thoroughly. Then imagine yourself doing well and succeeding.

l       Has something gone wrong in your life? See it as a temporary problem that can be solved. Think through different solutions, decide on one, and take action.

l       Are you angry with a family member or a friend? Try to resolve disagreements with people. Building strong relationships and keep commitments you have made.

S-T-R-E-S-S

S—Scheduling: Don’t schedule too many things in your day. If you feel you are too busy, cut out an activity or two.

S指分配时间:一天中不要安排太多事情。如果觉得太忙,就删除掉一两件事。

T—Treat your body well: Experts say exercise reduces stress. Also, eat healthy food so your brain and body get the nourishment they need.

T-指善待你的身体:专家表示运动能减轻压力。此外,吃健康的食物,好让大脑和身体获得所需的营养。

R—Relax: Do an activity that you enjoy and that relaxes you. Reading a good book, learning a new hobby, spending time with your pet or visiting a spa could make a difference.

R-代表放松身心:做你喜欢又能让你放松的事。读一本好书、学新的嗜好、抽空陪宠物或是去水疗馆都能释放压力。

E—Expectations: Be realistic about yourself and others. Do your best, but don’t try to be perfect, and don’t expect others to be.

E-代表期望:对自己和别人要抱着实际的态度。尽你所能,但不要强求做到满分,也不要期望别人完美无缺。

S—Sleep: Get a good night’s sleep. It will keep your mind and body in top shape.

S-代表睡眠:晚上好好睡觉,这能让你的身心维持最佳状态。

S—Smile: Smile and have confidence. Your attitude and thoughts influence the way you see things. If you’re a negative person, you can actually learn to think in a more positive way.

S-代表微笑:面带微笑并提起自信。你的态度和想法会影响你对事情的看法。如果你是个态度消极的人,其实可学习用比较正面的角度思考。

The benefits

  When we think of stress, we usually think of its negative effects. Studies, though, show that moderate levels of stress are actually helpful. In fact, the way we perform is usually affected by the amount of stress we feel.

  我们一想到压力,通常会想到压力的负面效应,然而,研究指出,适度的压力其实对人有益。事实上,我们的表现往往受到自身承受压力的多寡影响。

  Stress causes the brain to release adrenaline, which in turn increases our energy and excitement. The chemical gives us clearer minds and helps us do more. This is why some people say they work better under a deadline.

  压力使脑部下令释放肾上腺素,肾上腺素会让我们更有活力、更亢奋。这种化学物质让我们的头脑更清楚,也能帮我们做到更多的事,这就是有些人说他们在限时工作时更有效率的原因。

  Adrenaline that is not released for long periods of time can cause us to be bored and lazy. So some stress actually increases and strengthens our abilities instead of weakening them. We sometimes turn out our very best work when we push ourselves to the limit. Stress can also make us more confident. Handling small amounts of stress now prepares us for handling serious situation in the future. Who knows? Today’s stress may even prepare us for the next polar bear that comes along!

  肾上腺素长久没有释放会使我们感到无聊和懒散。所以,“有一点”压力其实能增强而不会减弱能力。我们把自己逼到极限时,有时候能表现的淋漓尽致。压力也能让我们更有自信。现在处理少量的压力能让我们准备好应付日后的危机状况,谁知道呢?说不定今日的压力还能让我们准备好面对另一迎面而来的北极熊呢!
