In 1855 Napoleon III effectively started the “Fine Wine Index” when he classified the wines in Bordeaux from 1 – 5. He based his decisions on the quality and prices realized of each Chateau wine over the previous 100 years or so. Apart from 1 change in 1979 (when Chateau Mouton-Rothschild was promoted from a 2nd growth to a 1st growth,) nothing has changed. Those with expert knowledge of the best vintages and top chateaux of Bordeaux have been exploiting this sector for hundreds of years.

Premier Cru ONLY invest in Bordeaux wines and do not invest in immature wines from countries such as Australia, USA, Chile etc. Out of over 4000 chateaux in Bordeaux, only the top 50 reach the standards we demand.
